Restylane®

Facial Rejuvenation using Restylane and Perlane

Restylane Thinner, Perlane Thicker, Up to the surgeons discretion as to his professional recommendation.

Restylane® is a safe and natural cosmetic dermal filler that restores volume and fullness to the skin to correct facial wrinkles and folds, such as nasolabial folds.

Restylane is the only cosmetic dermal filler made of non-animal-based hyaluronic acid, a natural substance that already exists in the human body. The hyaluronic acid in Restylane is a crystal-clear gel called NASHA™ or Non-Animal Stabilized Hyaluronic Acid. NASHA is completely biocompatible with human hyaluronic acid. This makes Restylane a desirable alternative to Botox Cosmetic for facial rejuvenation techniques.

How Restylane Works

Restylane® is made of hyaluronic acid, a completely natural substance that already exists in the human body. Hyaluronic acid provides volume and fullness to the skin1-4.

The hyaluronic acid in Restylane is a crystal-clear gel called NASHATM, or Non-Animal Stabilized Hyaluronic Acid. (Some other dermal fillers are made of animal products such as rooster combs.)

Using principles of isovolemic degradation, the hyaluronic network begins to degrade. Each molecule binds to more water, maintaining its shape to provide long-lasting results.

Hyaluronic acid is composed of dimeric sugar, a uniform linear polysaccharide. The hyaluronic acid molecule is hydrophilic, or "water-loving," a feature that allows it to bind to water to provide long-lasting results.

Restylane maintains its shape using the body's own moisture. The hyaluronic acid in Restylane is hydrophilic or "water loving." As hyaluronic acid gradually degrades, each molecule binds to more water and over time, the same volume can be maintained with less hyaluronic acid. This ability of hyaluronic acid to bind to water is what helps provide lasting results.

Unlike other hyaluronic acid-based products, such as those made from rooster combs, only Restylane is non-animal-based. This quality virtually eliminates any risk of animal-based disease transmission or allergic reaction.

Where is it used?

Restylane® has been used in more than one million treatments in over 60 countries to correct a variety of wrinkles and to enhance the appearance of the lip border. It is currently approved in the U.S. for the treatment of facial wrinkles and folds, such as nasolabial folds, which are the lines from the nose to the corners of the mouth.

How Long Does it Last?

Clinical studies have shown the average Restylane® treatment results can last six months or even longer3. The unique NASHA™ technology helps maintain the cosmetic effect until the injected material is nearly gone.

Restylane is proven to deliver a longer lasting effect than traditional collagen3, so treatments are typically scheduled twice a year. (Individual results may vary.)

How Much?

Restylane® is injected in a customized procedure based on your specific needs, so the cost will vary from patient to patient. In general, the cost of Restylane treatment is comparable to the cost of similar procedures. However, Restylane's lasting properties often prove to be very economical over the long term. Please consult your physician to determine the best recommendation for your particular needs.

Based on clinical studies3, Restylane treatments produce a very low occurrence of adverse events. The most commonly reported side effects were temporary redness and swelling at the injection site. These effects typically resolve within two to three days.
